At Dayton Grade School we welcome the support and involvement from our students’ families. The entire staff values and appreciates the contributions of our volunteers.  Educating the whole child necessitates the school community and families working together! All volunteers must fill out the necessary paperwork, including the criminal history verification, as required by the Oregon Department of Education.

Site Council

The Dayton Grade School site council consists of elected certified and classified staff and parents. Mandated by the 21st Century Oregon School Reform Act, the main duties of site council are: improving instruction, student learning, and professional development for staff. The site council meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 3:05 in the Dayton Grade School library.
Site Council is helping to implement the School Improvement Plan for the 2011-12 school year which includes the following goals:

  • Reading: 79% of students in grades 3-5 will meet or exceed the Oregon state benchmark.
  • Math: 65% of students in grades 3-5 will meet or exceed the Oregon state benchmark.
  • Writing: 36% of students in grade 4 will meet or exceed the Oregon state writing benchmark.

(These are all 5% increases above 2010-2011 data.)

P.T.S.O. (Parent Teacher Student Organization)

Dayton Grade School’s P.T.S.O. is a group of parent volunteers, teachers, and students who are dedicated to bridging the gap between school and community. Their main goal is to sponsor fundraisers which earn monies for field trips, play equipment, unique classroom supplies, assemblies, and other enrichment activities. The Read-A-Thon in the fall and the Pirate Walk in the spring are annual fundraisers. P.T.S.O. also collects General Mills boxtops and Campbell’s soup labels for additional funds. P.T.S.O.’s presence at school events fosters a sense of fellowship and community. Thanks to P.T.S.O., families enjoy refreshments at Kindergarten Round Up, Open House, and the Winter music program. The Dayton Grade School carnival relies heavily on P.T.S.O. for support. All parents are encouraged to get involved in P.T.S.O. You are invited to attend monthly P.T.S.O. meetings in room 10. Take the time to check out our bulletin board next to the office for more information.
